How about Yemen. I’m thinking of living in either of the two while working in Dubai.

If you work in Dubai, ask your contractor for the real story.

I don’t think anywhere in the Middle East is a good place for Americans to be.

Id say ask your embassy for full details. On another note try this site for info.

Forget Yemen you wont be able to make the commute and Yemen isnt exactly a very modern country in infrastructure Omann is a nice place lots of people speak arabic there unlike in UAE and there is a Omani exclav called the Musandam peninsula that is surroneded by UAE territory

you make it sound like Americans are a different race or something! and just because countries in the middle east are Arab countries doesn’t make them ALL hostile to Americans.
i think between the two counties Oman is the better. it is a lovely county and the compute in not that bad. but take my advise and chill dude just because you are American doesn’t mean that everyone it the world hates you.

I havent been to Oman, but I just returned from a 2nd trip to Yemen. I love it there, the people, the food…Sana is a bit dirty, especially the air. But a bit out of town its quite nice and very very inexpensive. But its too far to commute to Dubai….i mean waaay to far, unless just on long weekends….It is also rather strict. You see no alcohol, there is No dating etc. Which isint strict at all for us muslims of course….wherever u pick, Visit first.

If you are working in Dubai, it is too far away to commute from Yemen. Your only real option would be to live in Buraimi, Oman, which is next to Al Ain, but then you’d have to deal with crossing the border daily. Depending on where you work in Dubai, it may be quicker to get there than living in the wrong part of Dubai and dealing with traffic. You would be dealing with at least an hours drive each way. It is definitely cheaper to live in Buraimi. None of the Omani communities near Hatta are set up to accomodate foriegners.
If you are just talking about visiting Oman, then yes, it’s a great place to visit and not a problem for Americans. Yemen can be dangerous for westerners if you venture into the wrong sections of the country. You should see the state department warnings before attempting to visit Yemen.

thinking of living cheap, then it is Yemen, but with security and comfortability, Oman will be better for you.
